Algae Eater
From my 2004 Aquariums
6/3/2008

FOTD-June-3-2008

This nice fish was sold to me as Siamese Algae Eater. I'm not sure of its real name. The fish was very hardy. It lived long and well in my aquariums but was a bit aggressive and easily uprooted plants.

Hygro
From my 2004 Aquariums

FOTD-May-23-2008

Hygrophila polysperma: This plant is a very invasive weed and cannot be sold anywhere in the US as far as I know. Makes a good aquarium plant though. Grows fast and looks great.

Wispy Platy
From my 2004 Aquariums

FOTD-May-21-2008

I tried to snap red Platy but I got this wispy side-effect instead. Thought it looked good anyway.

Hydrocotyle_leucocephala_5

A new bunch of Hydrocotyle leucocephala introduced yesterday evening. It's the plant in the middle mid-ground with the umbrella-like foliage. Click here to see more pictures of this plant.

Golden Tetra Tank
40G Breeder from 2004

Fotdmay142008

This was one of my first planted aquariums. I used straight tap water. The golden effect is probably coming partly from soft white compact fluorescent bulbs. I always enjoy the effect of Cabomba carolinia forests seen on left.

Large Amazon Swords
20G Wide
5/13/2008

Asword2b

Just removed these three Amazon Sword plants from my 20 gallon wide tank. They have grown to just under a foot tall. They were taking too much room in the aquarium. I've decided to auction them off on Aquabid. If you would like to purchase them, the auction link will be valid until late Thursday, May 15 2008. Click here to bid.

Shade Under Aponogeton
20G Tall
5/8/2008

Fotdmay82008

Collected this plant today while doing maintenance on the aquarium. I think it's some kind of Aponogeton. It's been growing tall, flowering and creating shade. I've transplanted it to a taller aquarium. It may recede after transplantation.

Aquarium Upgrade
10G to 20G Freshwater
5/7/2008

Fotdmay72008

Converted a 10 gallon planted aquarium (pictured here) to a 20 gallon tall. This is the new aquarium early in February 08, after clay turbidity had finally started to subside. Unfortunately, the beautiful "Baby Tears" plants did not survive the transition.

Cory Trio
Snapshot from 2004
5/6/2008

Fotdmay62008

This photo is from a time when I kept fish more than plants. Corys are a fun gregarious fish that enjoy foraging substrates. They have a mechanism for breathing air so they jet to the surface frequently.

Death to Brush
20 gallon tall
5/5/2008

Dyingbrush

Taken a few days ago, this picture shows old Amazon Sword leaves with a few remaining tufts of Brush Algae. The brush used to cover the rim of these leaves, but has been killed of using large 30ml doses of Flourish Excel.
